Patrick J. Mahaffy
Chairman

Mr. Mahaffy is a founder of Pharmion and has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of its board of directors since its inception. From 1992 through 1998, Mr. Mahaffy was President and Chief Executive Officer of NeXagen, Inc. and its successor, NeXstar Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. Prior to that, Mr. Mahaffy was a Vice President at E.M. Warburg Pincus and Co.

 

Nicole Vitullo
Director

Ms. Vitullo is a Partner at Domain Associates where she joined in 1999. She has full management responsibility for Domain Public Equity Partners, and she is also involved in distribution/liquidation strategies for the public companies in Domain’s venture capital portfolios. Prior to Domain, she was Senior Vice President at Rothschild Asset Management, Inc., where she had responsibility for the U.S. public market investments of International Biotechnology Trust plc and Biotechnology Investments Limited. Prior to Rothschild Asset Management, Ms. Vitullo was Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at Cephalon, a publicly traded biotechnology company. Before joining Cephalon, Ms. Vitullo spent 12 years at Eastman Kodak, most recently in Corporate Development, where she was involved in the development and management of Kodak’s venture capital activities.
In addition to Ruxton, Nicole also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Onyx Pharmaceuticals and Eunoe, Inc. She received a B.A. and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester.

M. James Barrett
Director

Jim is a General Partner at New Enterprise Associates where he joined in 2001. He specializes in biotechnology and works with members of NEA’s healthcare investment group on medical devices, healthcare information systems and healthcare services companies. Prior to NEA, Jim served as Founder/Chairman/CEO of Sensors for Medicine and Science (1997 - 2001) where he remains Chairman. Prior to that, he was Chairman/CEO of Genetic Therapy (1987 - 1995), President/CEO of Life Technologies (1985 - 1987), and President/CEO of Bethesda Research Labs (1982 - 1983). Prior to 1982, Jim worked in various divisions of SmithKline.
In addition to Ruxton, present board memberships include Cardioxyl Pharmaceuticals Inc., EXIMIAS Pharmaceutical Corporation, GlycoMimetics, Inhibitex, Iomai Corporation, Nucleonics, Peptimmune, Pharmion Corporation , Sensors for Medicine and Science and Targacept. Jim received a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Tennessee, his MBA from the University of Santa Clara, and a BS in Chemistry from Boston College.
