Ruxton is minimizing risk of efficacy failures by addressing a biological pathway, glutamate excitotoxicity, that has been known for years as fundamental to cell destruction in neurodegenerative diseases. Human efficacy proof of concept for this pathway already exists from clinical trials performed with potent NMDA antagonists, drugs that unfortunately were also toxic. Our target in this pathway, modulation of glutamate transporters, is novel.
